Driver Run Over By Own Garbage Truck In Auburn

AUBURN (WBZ-AM) -- A garbage truck driver suffered "Life-threatening injuries" after apparently being hit by his own truck.

The crash happened around 1:30 p.m. near the intersection of Upland Street and Manor Road.

The Auburn Fire Rescue Department said the truck somehow rolled over the driver, who was loading trash, and then into a utility pole, snapping it in half.

The driver was rushed to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester. 

His condition was not yet known, but Auburn Fire said his injuries were life-threatening when he was transported.

Streets in the area remained blocked due to the downed pole and wires.
