Ebony White

The New 97.7 Woman Of The Week - Week Of October 1, 2018

Name: Ebony White
From: Lynn, MA

About Woman Of The Week: Ebony White is a Lynn native who is all about her community, and is also a mother of two wonderful kids named Jason age 10 and Jordin age 8. Her kids and family are her world and they keep her continuing on a positive journey. As young woman growing up in Lynn, Ebony was always determined to excel in the classroom and on the basketball court. She knew as young child that she wanted to be the change in her city to empower all young girls and boys.

At the ages of 12-18, she was raised by her grandmother due to having two parents incarcerated and although Ebony faced several challenges, she just knew that she could not allow her struggle to be her excuse of why she did not achieve or go after all of her life goals.

In 2001, Ebony finally had a chance to put her dreams into action and was accepted into Newbury College where she studied Communications, played on the Newbury Nighthawks Woman's Basketball Team, and became the first in her family to graduate from college. In 2016 she received a certificate in nonprofit management and now pursuing her Masters at Suffolk University, Public Administration program.

When Ebony graduated in 2006, she began working at Lynn YMCA with youth and families. The YMCA was home, it was a place that she attended as a child and also a place where she met some great friends. As time went on, she was hungry for more and wanted to explore other options where she could have a bigger impact on the youth. In 2008 she followed her heart and landed a great job at Centerboard, Inc working with at risk youth who are placed in residential programs.

Since going to Centerboard in 2008 as a Direct Care Staff, Ebony has worked endless hours and dedicated her heart and soul to all the youth who could not see tomorrow due to the trauma that has impacted them. Fast forward ten years later, Ebony White is now the Assistant Director of Youth Services and oversees a division consisting of four programs, managers, and direct care staff.

No matter what she has accomplished thus far, she could never forget where she came from and what she had to do to get where she is today. Providing free programs for youth and families to be successful was always a goal and now giving back to the community by creating opportunities that she wishes were available to her as a child has been one of the Ebony's biggest life accomplishments.

Through all the hard work and feeling like giving up at times, she is grateful to the leaders at her job for motivation to continue pushing and empowering her to follow a dream that she shared with them years ago. She is excited to announce the launch of a new program called "T.R.U.E." Teach One.. Reach One.. Uplift One.. Empower One.. for young males who are experiencing a parent incarcerated, deported, deceased, or absent. The program is something that Ebony holds close to her heart, and will give these young boys positive male mentor.

Ebony also sits on a board for a group called "Stop The Violence Lynn." On that board, she has the pleasure to work alongside some powerful and influential city leaders who all want to see the violence decrease in the City Of Lynn. She has been on the board for about three years and the group continues to have a positive impact on the city by raising the awareness of the violence in the city.

Quote from Ebony White: "Stop giving people the power to steal your peace."
