BU Lifts Shelter In Place After Report Of Armed Man

BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- It was a hectic scene on Tuesday afternoon in the Back Bay as Boston University Police became involved in a chase with a male suspect they saw holding a gun.

The chase started near 833B Beacon Street. When officers approached the suspect, he ran towards the greenline train and exited in Kenmore Square where he was seen running into the Barnes and Noble Bookstore.

Boston University Police ordered a shelter in place for all buildings in the Kenmore Square area, Boston Police along with MBTA Transit Police and Massachusetts State Police searched the bookstore.

The search lasted 20-minutes, lifting the order, saying the area was safe.

BU Police described the man as a white male with a beard and curly hair, wearing a long sleeve shirt with black sleeves and some red and black, as well as blue jeans. They said he was first spotted near Landmark Center, and last seen near Kenmore Square, on train tracks.

Police did reportedly find an air-soft pellet gun but that was back where the chase began.
