CHELMSFORD, MA (WBZ-AM) — Public health officials in Chelmsford are warning residents of a second case of measles that was recently diagnosed in the Lowell region.
The individual went to several locations, including the Chelmsford Street T.J. Maxx on Sunday Nov. 11 between 3-7 p.m. Officials said the individual was diagnosed Nov. 15.
Chelmsford’s health director Susan Rosa said anyone with questions about measles and exposure can call the Chelmsford Board of Health Saturday until 5 p.m. and Sunday between 9-11 a.m.
“What we’re telling people to do is if you were at the T.J. Maxx during that time frame, it is recommended that the first thing you do is check for your immunity, check your vaccination history, make sure that you were vaccinated,” Rosa said. “If you think you were vaccinated… call your doctor and they can draw a blood test and they can find out whether or not you have immunity to measles. And if you are born before 1957, it is pretty much presumed that you have immunity toward measles.”
Rosa added that in addition to the Chelmsford T.J. Maxx, exposures to this individual may have also occurred at the Lowell Community Health Center Nov. 15 from 4-9 p.m., and the Walmart Supercenter in Tewksbury on Thursday, Nov. 15 from 5-8 p.m.
The first patient was diagnosed Friday, Nov. 9.
