Ten People Charged In Connection With Boston Protests

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Ten people were arrested during protests in Boston on Friday, which were part of a nationwide string of demonstrations in response to the killing of George Floyd.

According to BPD, "during the course of the protest, several individuals made their presence known to police officers due to varying levels of disorderly behavior and conduct."

Starting at around 5 p.m. Friday, hundreds of protestors showed up to demonstrate at Peter's Park in Boston's South End. Hours after the peaceful protest began, a few dozen people splintered off and gathered outside the District 4 police station and began chanting and yelling at officers.

Video from the incident shows at one point, police pushed the crowd back and deployed pepper spray. One protestor appeared to have been hit with the spray and called out for an inhaler to help her breathe.

Seven out of the ten arrests on Friday were made in the area of the District-4 Police Station at 650 Harrison Ave in the South End. Charges range from Disorderly Conduct and Resisting Arrest to Assault and Battery on a Police Officer.

The other three individuals, aged 17 to 21, were arrested in the area of the District B-2 Police Station in Roxbury, for charges including Carrying a Dangerous Weapon and Damage to Property by Graffiti.

Four Boston Police Officers were also injured during the incidents. They were all transported to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

BPD said all ten suspects are scheduled to be arraigned on Monday, June 1.
